School newspaper DragoNews wins first prize with help from Statbel Junior

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, the school newspaper DragoNews was awarded first prize in the category “5th and 6th year of primary school” during the closing ceremony of the competition “Journalistes en herbe”. No fewer than 30 classes took part in this prestigious competition.

The winning class from the Ecole Saint-Georges de la Trinité, supervised by their teacher David De Myttenaere, had participated in an interactive workshop on Statbel Junior in Brussels earlier this school year. During this session, the pupils learned how to work with official figures on population statistics and traffic accidents in their own municipality. These insights greatly enriched their journalism project, which ultimately earned them the top prize. Congratulations to this eager class!

Statbel Junior offers interactive workshops in which pupils are introduced to the world of statistics in a fun way. Either a Statbel team comes to your school, or your class can come to Brussels. Pupils learn to work with real data, discover how statistics explain their own world, and develop important research and analysis skills.

Would you also like to offer your class this unique experience? Request a workshop and make statistics tangible and relevant in your classroom!
